Job Summary The Regional Cancer Services NP provides care in a multi-specialty. UCSF Cancer Center San Mateo. As an offsite/off-license facility, the responsibilities placed upon APPs escalate in complexity due to the remote nature of clinical staffing and patient care. The Nurse Practitioner's responsibilities include performing bone marrow biopsies, patient triage, critical value reception, and covering orders and time-specific requests. Under the supervision of the UCSF Department of Ambulatory Hematology & Oncology setting and guided by the policies and procedures, rules and regulations, and bylaws of the UCSF Medical Center, some Nursing Policies and Medical Staff Policies, and any unique to inpatient or ambulatory patient services (for those APPs providing services both in the inpatient and mobile environments) this Nurse Practitioner (NP) position is assigned to the San Mateo Cancer Outpatient Practice and Infusion Center. This APP position may perform delegated functions appropriate to their "scope of practice." In general, the "scope of practice" includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, specialty protocols (e.g., chemotherapy, managing HAI pumps, and responding to low-frequency and high-risk events), routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and surgical procedures. This position will provide outpatient care in approved age groups at UCSF Health settings. The APP is responsible for the quality of standards of care for a specified patient population and evidence of self-direction and accountability in developing this role within all UCSF medical center locations. UCSF Health requires all Advanced Practice Providers (APP) to be credentialed through its Medical Staff Services Office (MSSO) to practice and function in their clinical role. This applies to adult and pediatric APPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Health sites (San Mateo & Redwood City, Satellite Clinics, et al.). Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes 30-60 days and must be completed before the first working day.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $135.11 (Hourly Rate). Department Description The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is an accredited National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. The NCI-Designation recognizes the scientific leadership, resources, and the depth and breadth of the research in basic, clinical and population science. As a Comprehensive Cancer Center, we demonstrate the added depth and breadth of research as well as substantial transdisciplinary research that bridges these scientific areas. The clinical services encompass adult and pediatric tumors across three campuses as well as regional satellite locations. The clinical cancer program is one of the largest clinical services at UCSF Medical Center and encompasses roughly 230 non-physician FTEs, 90+ cost center, and dozens of grant and philanthropic funding sources. Required Qualifications
- At least 2 years of experience as an oncology Nurse Practitioner in an outpatient adult oncology program.
- Bone marrow biopsy aspiration training
- Demonstrated competence in the following areas: clinical practice, communication, clinical case management, and problem identification/resolution.
- Flexibility to orient and work at multiple Ambulatory/Outpatient UCSF Cancer Center locations.
- Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations and in varying schedules as outlined.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in clinical database entry
- Multi-lingual: Spanish, Cantonese
License/Certification
- California driver's license (CDL) if required for position.
- Must hold current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work.

- Current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California.
- Complete a BRN recognized graduate master's degree program as a nurse practitioner.
- Obtain an active and/or transferable DEA license to California and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
- Submit enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day. CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments.
- Hold current AHA BLS.
- Hold current AHA NRP.
- State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice.
- Incumbents with less than 6 months of NP experience will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner 1.
UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
