Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The
NCCU School of Education offers undergraduate, graduate, licensure and professional development programs to train students to become teachers, principals, counselors, as well as serve as mentors to community schools. The School offers traditional, classroom-based instruction as well as instruction via the Internet and teleconferencing. Faculty and staff bring diverse knowledge and experience, provide students with a unique learning experience; teach in small classroom size for easier access to each other and their instructors, and employ the latest technology.
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction is located in the School of Education. It houses undergraduate and graduate programs that prepare professional PK-12 educators for licensure and success in school settings. Programs include early childhood education, elementary education, middle grades education, educational technology, instructional design, special education, and school administration. |
Primary Purpose of Position |
Design and teach campus and online classes in the Early Childhood and Family Studies program. Advise, mentor, and supervise students in practicum and f ield experiences. Engage in scholarly activities leading to publication. Seek grants or other sources of funding to support innovative inquiry -based projects. Participate in department, college, university, and community service. Contribute to the department's and university's ef forts to create a welcoming, inclusive, and equitable learning environment for all students . |
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
Candidates will possess an earned doctorate f rom a regionally accredited institution. Candidates must demonstrate potential for ef fective teaching in early childhood education; research and service; and activity in appropriate professional organizations and/or societies. Strong interpersonal skills, strong identity as an early childhood educator, and excellent organizational and communication skills are expected. |
Minimum Education/Experience |
* Completed Ph.D. or equivalent Human Development, Family Science/Studies, Developmental
Psychology, Sociology, or a related f ield (or closely related discipline) by position start date (
ABD
may be considered).
* Demonstrated record of or strong potential for achievement in teaching, academic research, and
service commensurate with experience.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate and work ef fectively with others.
* Experience working with a variety of audiences.
* Excellent written communication skills.
* Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills. |
