HDR is seeking a highly motivated Senior Project Manager to work in the Transportation market sector in Utah. This position will provide project management and technical services to UDOT and public agency clients in a thriving region. Specifically, this individual will work to pursue, manage, and deliver projects and respond to client needs. This position requires strong management skills and the ability to work with different facets of transportation and public agency staff and capital projects.

The ideal candidate will have broad experience working with transportation in Utah. The successful candidate must demonstrate knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local standards and requirements associated with transportation projects, design, operations, and maintenance and an understanding of project delivery processes for various phases of project development such as planning, conceptual design and feasibility, environmental documentation, preparation of Plans, Specifications, and Estimate (PS&E), and providing Design Support During Construction (DSDC) and Construction Management (CM). The ideal candidate will also act as a seller-doer project manager that leads project pursuits and helps grow market share, through cooperation with the Freight Rail Market Sector Leader and the business development and marketing team.


In the role of Senior Project Manager Engineering, we'll count on you to:

  • Direct and coordinate work of single or multidiscipline teams throughout the project's lifecycle (from development & initiation to close-out)
  • Responsible for all aspects of large multidiscipline projects or medium-sized projects with high degree of technical complexity, involving a large project staff
  • Produce and coordinate several projects concurrently.
  • Establish and maintain client relations, and be involved with marketing, contractual, design and production meetings.
  • Track financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust work effort with team to ensure that work is completed within parameters of agreed-to budget and schedule
  • Act as mentor for less-experienced Project Managers and Engineers
  • Prepare/review engineering scopes of work and budgets/estimates for proposals and track budget and schedule status throughout the course of each project. Monitor scope of work and scope changes.
  • Interface with clients as needed for successful project delivery. Address client requirements and manage client expectations regarding scope, schedule and quality on projects.
  • Communicate with staff and subconsultants to establish work priorities for projects.
  • Coordinate with other managers throughout HDR to review workload, project status, and staffing requirements.
  • Monitor changes in codes, regulations, and client standards. Implement required changes into the design standards, procedures, and deliverables.
  • Perform and/or coordinate quality control reviews of projects.
  • Perform project engineering duties when required.
  • Perform other duties as needed


Preferred Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience
  • State of Utah PE license

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 10 years related experience
  • A minimum 5 years project management experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • MS Office and MS Project experience (Access experience would be plus)
  • Demonstrated leadership, business development and strategic planning skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
