Our fun, creative and talented Nebraska / Iowa transportation planning group is looking for a Transportation Planner to join our team. The ideal candidate will work well in a team environment, enjoy tackling new challenges, have strong written and verbal communication skills, like analyzing and summarizing planning data, and have a passion to advance the transportation profession. They will be comfortable working collaboratively and independently. As a Transportation Planner, we'll count on you to:
- Collaborate with multimodal teams of planners, engineers, technical specialists, and communications specialists - at times under compressed timelines
- Collect and evaluate project data, which may include GIS analysis, analysis of large datasets, Census data, travel demand models / travel forecasts, and research
- Provide transportation planning services for state and federal agencies, metropolitan planning organizations, transit agencies, cities and counties
- Evaluate operational, connectivity, and safety needs across all modes of travel
- Identify strategies to address existing and future transportation system deficiencies
- Research and identify new and innovative solutions to plan for and adapt to the growth of technology in transportation
- Work with our team to write data-backed and compelling plans and studies, including multimodal regional, statewide, and small-area plans; transportation grant applications; active transportation plans; safety action plans; electric vehicle planning studies; and multimodal corridor studies
- Document and present project work and conclusions with project team members, clients and the public
Preferred Qualifications
- 0-4 years experience
- ESRI ArcGIS/Pro experience
- Applied experience with travel demand software packages like TransCAD and / or CUBE.
- Understanding and experience with planning-level multimodal analysis, including bicycle and pedestrian, transit service, and traffic flow
- Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, or closely related field
- MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A willingness and ability to learn new skills, self-start, manage time, and think through tasks
- Strong conceptual, organizational, problem solving and analytical abilities
