Job Summary:

The Goldsmith group is looking for a Scientist with extensive knowledge of the optical properties of high-finesse fiber-based Fabry-Perot microcavities, their optical and mechanical properties, and associated electronic and optical hardware. These microcavities will be used for applications in label-free sensing of molecules for biophysical characterization, or applications in molecular quantum optics.


Responsibilities:
Identifies research problems, designs research methodologies, performs research, and prepares and/or presents results for presentation to professional organizations or for scholarly publications to help advance research.

  • 5% Identifies research problems and develops complex research methodologies and procedures
  • 30% Collects and analyzes complex research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures under general supervision
  • 5% Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities
  • 5% Writes or assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding
  • 10% May supervise the day-to-day activities of a research unit as needed
  • 25% Serves as a unit subject matter expert and liaison to internal and external stakeholders providing advanced level information and representing the interests of a specialized research area
  • 20% Designs specialized instrumentation

Education:

Required
PhD in Chemistry or Physics is required


Qualifications:

Required:
At least one year of experience working with high-finesse Fiber-based optical microcavities.
Experience with frequency analysis of optical systems.
Experience with FDTD software such as COMSOL or LUMERICAL.


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.


Appointment Type, Duration:

Terminal, 12 month appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding


Salary:

Minimum $65,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The expected salary range for this position is $65,000 - $70,000 but actual salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional Information:

This appointment is a terminal 12-month appointment, with the possibility of extension for an additional year.
