Job Summary:

The UW Center for Tobacco, Research, and Intervention is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator II to join their research team. The overall responsibility of this position will be to assist in the development and delivery of research programs aimed at understanding tobacco and nicotine dependence, to reduce the physical, emotional, and financial consequences of smoking. This position will assist in the coordination of all research activities to include screening and enrolling participants, performing psychological assessments, providing tobacco cessation counseling, completing follow-up calls, and mailing study materials. This position will also be trained in qualitative research methods to include conducting interviews and assisting with qualitative coding and analysis.

UW-CTRI is based in the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. UW-CTRI improves lives by conducting biomedical and social science research to better understand the impacts of tobacco use and addiction and design and implement evidence-based interventions to reduce tobacco use.


Responsibilities:
Coordinates clinical research studies, performing a variety of tasks and activities. Recruits, screens, selects, determines eligibility, and enrolls study participants and ensures subjects follow the research protocol. Develops study-related documents. Applies expertise, knowledge, and skills to a broad range of different types of clinical studies, navigates resources, and identifies issues needing escalation. Contributes to development of new team and unit processes, procedures, staff, and tools.

  • 5% Schedules logistics, determines workflows, and secures resources for clinical research trials
  • 20% Recruits, screens, selects, determines eligibility and enrolls trial participants, collects more complex information, performs medical assessments, and answers varied questions under supervision of a medically licensed professional. Performs medical assessments after completion of required training/certification, such as collecting vital signs, obtaining weight, and performing phlebotomy
  • 20% Manages research workflow components, collects, prepares, processes, and submits participant data and samples to appropriate entities, adhering to research protocols
  • 5% Identifies work unit resources needs and manages supply and equipment inventory levels
  • 5% Serves as a main point of contact for clinical research participants, providing information regarding research procedures, expectations, and informational inquiries. Ensures participants follow the research protocol and alerts Principal Investigator of issues
  • 15% Performs quality checks
  • 5% Identifies resource needs and develops clinical research documents, such as job aids, tools, processes, procedures, and training. Contributes to the development of protocols
  • 5% May assist with training of staff
  • 20% Supports qualitative research including conducting interviews and assisting with qualitative data coding and analysis

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree
Study related to clinical or behavioral health education preferred


Qualifications:

Required:
- At least 1 year of experience working in a clinical, behavioral, or research setting. Experience can be at an undergraduate level (e.g., research assistant).

Preferred:
- Experience performing psychological assessments.
- Experience using databases and excel spreadsheets.
- Experience with providing behavioral counseling.


Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 80% - 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.


Appointment Type, Duration:

Terminal, 12 month appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding


Salary:

Minimum $50,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

The starting salary for the position is $50,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Additional Information:

University sponsorship is not available for this position, including transfers of sponsorship. The selected applicant will be responsible for ensuring their continuous eligibility to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the United States, a lawful permanent resident, a foreign national authorized to work in the United States without the need of an employer sponsorship) on or before the effective date of appointment. This position is currently scheduled to end one year from date of hire and will require eligibility to work until that time.

This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.
