Job Summary:

The Anderson Lab within the UW-Madison Center for Genomic Science Innovation (CGSI) and the Department of Medical Genetics seeks an ambitious and highly motivated research specialist to support research activities. This is an outstanding opportunity for researchers interested in bolstering existing skills. The lab is housed within the CGSI, which serves as a vibrant and collegial environment for inclusive and collaborative science. The Center and the University are located in Madison, WI, which is frequently voted among the best places to live.

The position described here will contribute to the ongoing molecular research in the Anderson lab on Candida albicans biology. More specifically, this individual will contribute to the investigation of individual function among a closely-related set of genes that control global gene expression in the cell. It is expected that this person will have a molecular biology and/or genetics background. Additional duties associated with this position will include assistance with lab maintenance and ordering. They will also build out documentation for lab operations, equipment use, and procedures.


Responsibilities:
Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision.

  • 70% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
  • 5% Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
  • 15% Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
  • 5% Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
  • 5% Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers

Degree in Molecular and/or chemical biology preferred.


Qualifications:

Well qualified candidates will have the required qualifications:

Required: The applicants should have molecular biology and microbiology experience. This involves the basics of molecular biology such as liquid handling, preparation of stock solutions, PCR, and/or sequencing approaches. This area of expertise will be complemented with training in training surrounding genetics theory and analysis of next generation sequencing data. Integral to this project will be the ability to keep track of multiple systems simultaneously as applied to both lab duties and research.

Preferred: Individuals with experience in genetic dissection of complex gene groups.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

The minimum salary for a Research Specialist position is $44,543 annually. Salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.


Additional Information:
