About Us: The UW School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) is a leader in research and innovation, dedicated to improving patient outcomes through advanced data science and analytics. We are seeking an experienced Cloud Security Engineer for the Wisconsin Health Data Hub (WHDH), recently funded by the EDA as part of the Tech Hub (https://news.wisc.edu/federal-funds-awarded-for-biohealth-with-uw-madison-leading-the-way/) initiative, and drive transformative data science projects to enhance healthcare and research at SMPH.

We are seeking an experienced Cloud Security Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure cloud infrastructures for WHDH. This role requires a deep understanding of cloud architecture, security best practices, and the ability to protect our cloud environments from potential threats.

On a day-to-day basis, the incumbent could expect to engage in the following activities in supporting researchers that use WHDH services:
- Identify and define cybersecurity requirements for WHDH
- Design, develop, and deploy scalable cloud-based security solutions for WHDH
- Perform vulnerability testing, risk analyses, and security assessments
- Monitor systems for irregular behavior and respond to security incidents and breaches
- Develop and coordinate cloud security procedures, standards, and appropriate plans, such as business continuity and disaster recovery
- Collaborate with IT and development teams to ensure secure integration of cloud solutions
- Stay updated with the latest security issues, regulatory changes, and industry trends
- Conduct security training and awareness programs for staff
- Ensure compliance with all relevant security and privacy laws and regulations


Responsibilities:
Leads the planning, development, implementing, managing, and upgrading security systems for the protection of the organization's data, systems, and networks, and instructs on monitoring procedures for these systems. Directs the troubleshooting and resolution of cybersecurity services and infrastructure.

  • 25% Leads the design, development, and implementation of cybersecurity services and infrastructure and ensures that best practices and standards are applied
  • 25% Determines necessary technical changes to improve security
  • 25% Leads the development of procedures and training for daily administrative tasks for cybersecurity services and infrastructure
  • 25% Ensures that change management processes are followed for cybersecurity services and infrastructure

Qualifications:

Required:
- Proven experience as a Cloud Security Engineer or in a similar role
- Proficiency with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and security tools
- Strong understanding of cloud architecture and security best practices
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred:
- Certifications such as AWS Certified Security - Specialty, Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate, or similar
- Experience with DevSecOps practices and tools
- Experience with Azure
- Familiarity with HIPAA and NIST frameworks


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $111,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The starting salary for the position is $111,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
