WAVE is currently looking for a Tool and Die Technician to join our team!

This position is responsible for activities associated primarily with presses. A tool and die technician must demonstrate the ability to construct, modify and repair a variety of tools, progressive dies, blank and pierce dies, cut-off dies, jigs, fixtures and other similar tooling utilized in the manufacturing process. In addition, a tool and die technician must fabricate parts from drawings, sketches or verbal instructions.

General Responsibilities:



  • Repair tooling using a variety of machine shop equipment and bench work to maintain close tolerances of +-.0005".
  • Observe and diagnose machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance production.
  • Conduct tooling changeovers and assist operators in troubleshooting vertical startup and quality specifications.
  • Assist in the supervisory of all tool room functions such as inventory management.
  • Perform basic machine preventive maintenance on presses and other auxiliary equipment.
  • Document and track the results of change overs and create a list of action items to drive improvement for the next time that C/O happens.
  • Ownership of scheduling critical line PM's on tooling and presses with production.
  • Attend daily planning meetings to ensure that we identify tooling needs for specific change overs and make sure tooling is always ready prior to the start of a C/O.
  • Make daily work schedule for Tool and Die department based off of vacation schedule, supply chain/set-up schedule, production line priorities and maintenance project schedule.
  • Submit tooling ECO's as needed and attend monthly meetings to follow up on all active and pending ECO's.
  • Perform all work in a safe manner; use proper lock-out procedures during repairs or machine adjustments. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and make certain that all safety equipment is in proper working order.
  • Perform these and other related duties as assigned or directed.
  • Actively participate in communication and WAVE culture.


In addition to the above general responsibilities, a tool and die technician must preserve a safe work environment and work in a safe manner following all safety SOPs.

Measures of Effectiveness; including, but not limited to:



  • Safety - OSHA rate, compliance to regulations/policies, evidence of risk reduction, engagement in 8-Step Safety Process, near-miss reporting
  • Quality - Customer claims, quarantined product, ability to recognize defects and implement corrective actions through visual inspection while machine is in operation
  • Productivity - Changeover time, tooling placement and condition accuracy, troubleshooting, inventory management
  • Communication - Shift handoff and line preparation, Gemba, kaizen event participation


Qualifications:



  • Minimum 5 years experience as a Tool and Die Maker with AutoCad capabilities.
  • LEAN Manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Must have good written and verbal skills
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to drive multiple tasks and communicate across various levels of the organization.
  • Computer skills
