Job Summary:

The Office of Social Health Sciences and Programs (OSHSP) at the University of Wisconsin (UW) School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) oversees, creates synergies, and guides the growth of SMPH's current and future initiatives, policies and programs that are designed to study and eliminate health disparities. One new program, the Orion Initiative, seeks to improve rural health care, initially in targeted pilot Wisconsin communities.

This position will start in the early stages of this exciting new program and present opportunities to shape outreach and operational processes.

Under the direction of the Administrative Associate Director, the Project and Engagement Officer is the Orion Initiative's (Initiative) principal contact for providing technical assistance to current and future rural health partners. This includes connecting partners to OSHSP and SMPH resources.

This position will assist in the development and implementation of operational processes related to the Initiative's role in overseeing projects, engage in programmatic analysis of partnership activities to ensure compliance with Initiative requirements; assist in monitoring progress reports to inform project evaluation; assist in the coordination of future Advisory and Oversight committee meetings; and participate in special projects as assigned, particularly in the start-up phase of the initiative.

The Project and Engagement Officer informs outreach activities to ensure partnership opportunities are known. This position contributes to convening activities by assisting with conference and event planning and outreach to key stakeholders to ensure broad participation.


Responsibilities:
Delivers and assists with planning outreach program activities, strengthens partnerships, ensures adherence to policy, and assists with program administration to promote stable and productive relationships between the university and local community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences. May assist with tracking and managing the outreach program budget.

  • 20% Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the outreach program
  • 10% Schedules and secures resources and communicates logistics in support of an outreach program
  • 10% Delivers outreach program content and materials to community members
  • 15% Researches, develops, and facilitates outreach program content and materials
  • 10% Develops and evaluates curriculum and programs and provides recommendations for improvement
  • 5% May assist with the monitoring of outreach program budget spending
  • 20% Leads the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers
  • 10% Engage in special projects to advance rural health initiatives

Qualifications:

Minimum Required Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:
-Minimum two years of professional experience or substantive internship in program development, rural health policy, health education, health care, or health services research.
-Experience with program or grant management.

-Minimum two years of professional experience or substantive internship in program development, rural health policy, health education, health care or health services research, preferably in a community, governmental public health, university, philanthropic foundation, or health care setting.
-Demonstrated experience in community engagement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-Demonstrated written, interpersonal, and oral presentation skills.
-Proven organizational, analytical and program development skills.
-Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities effectively.
-Proven ability to work independently and to be flexible with changing priorities.
-Experience developing and making presentations to a variety of audiences.
-A proven professional who is responsive, service oriented, efficient and timely with the desire to work as a member of a team sharing common goals and mission.
-Demonstrated understanding of health, health care and/or health equity in Wisconsin.


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
