Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The HPM mission is to improve health for all by creating and translating knowledge into policy and practice and educating current and future health leaders, managers, policymakers, practitioners, and researchers. HPM has highly active and well- funded investigators who seek to improve the access, quality, equity, efficiency, and effectiveness of health care services and reduce health disparities at the local, national, and global levels. Thirty-four full-time faculty are experts in decision science, economics, finance, implementation science, management, medical geography, policy, public health, outcomes research and systems science. Their research, scholarship and practice focus on many areas including health equity, access, organization, and quality; cancer; aging and caregiving; global health; rural health; health policy; and health informatics and employ a variety of methods including community engaged research, qualitative, quantitative/data science, and mixed methods (https://sph.unc.edu/hpm/hpm-faculty-and-staff/). HPM, SPH and UNC-CH are committed to inclusive excellence in research, teaching, and mentoring.

Many HPM and SPH faculty are investigators in UNC research centers and programs including the Sheps Center for Health Services Research (http://www.shepscenter.unc.edu/), the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center (https://unclineberger.org/), the Carolina Health Informatics Program (https://chip.unc.edu), the North Carolina Translational and Clinical Sciences Institute (https://tracs.unc.edu/), the Carolina Population Center (https://www.cpc.unc.edu/) and the Center for Pharmacoepidemiology (http://pharmacoepi.unc.edu/). Collaboration with external research institutions such as the Research Triangle Institute (https://www.rti.org/), Duke University, and NC State University is encouraged.

HPM makes substantial ongoing investment in the excellence and innovation of our academic programs. We offer a Bachelor of Science in Public Health ( BSPH), Executive and Residential Master of Healthcare Administration ( MHA), Master of Science in Public Health ( MSPH), executive Doctor of Public Health (DrPH), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees. HPM also offers a Health Policy concentration as part of a School-wide MPH degree (https://sph.unc.edu/hpm/hpm-degrees-and-certificates/). Student enrollment in our residential and executive programs includes about 90 undergraduate students, 200 residential graduate and doctoral students, in addition to hybrid-remote executive students.
Position Summary
THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH POLICY AND MANAGEMENT ( HPM), at the top-ranked UNC GILLINGS SCHOOL OF GLOBAL PUBLIC HEALTH SPH), UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL ( UNC-CH) invites applications for:

* The Vergil N. Slee Distinguished Professor in Health Care Quality
* The Vergil N. Slee Distinguished Professor in Health Care Management.

The Vergil N. Slee Distinguished Professorship in Healthcare Quality Management was established in 1999 in recognition of the pioneering contributions made by Vergil N. Slee, MD, MPH, to healthcare quality measurement and healthcare outcomes research. The annual income from the endowment will be used to support two tenured full professors who have achieved distinction and national stature as scholars in the field of healthcare quality and healthcare management. Funds are provided to supplement salary and to provide scholarly and other support as needed. These positions require full-time participation on campus (permanent remote status will not be considered), and are 12-month appointments: (https://academicpersonnel.unc.edu/policies-and-procedures/faculty-appointments/faculty-appointment-service-periods/).
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
* A doctoral degree in public health, health services, social sciences, management, health policy, public policy, or a related field (or foreign degree equivalent).
* Currently a fully tenured professor or meets departmental expectations for a full professor at Gillings SPH, UNC
* Proven track record and high potential for externally funded research in healthcare quality and/or healthcare management. Priority areas include but are not limited to long-term services and supports, aging and disabilities research, and behavioral health.
* Teaching and/or mentoring experience with students and/or trainees
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Preference will be given to applicants who have ability and willingness to:

* Teach and mentor students in at least one of the following doctoral concentration areas (https://sph.unc.edu/hpm/hpm-phd-minor-areas-information/)
* Teach and mentor PhD, Masters, DrPH, and/or undergraduate students (a list of our courses can be found here: https://sph.unc.edu/hpm/hpm-course-list/
* Teach in residential and/or online formats
* Mentor PhD, Masters, DrPH, and/or undergraduate students, junior faculty, researchers, and post-doctoral fellows.
* Contribute to achievement of the HPM, SPH, and UNC-CH missions.
* Promote an inclusive culture and community within HPM and Gillings.
