About the Job

The Experimental High Energy Physics (HEP) group in the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Minnesota seeks candidates for a postdoc position to work on the CMS experiment at the LHC. The position will be based at the University of Minnesota.

The University of Minnesota group has interests in several particle physics topics including searches for new particles and measurements of Higgs boson and weak boson properties as observed in proton-proton collisions. The group has particular interest in the use of machine learning techniques to enable new analysis strategies, as well as the application of deep understanding of the detector to enable novel physics studies. The group also has a leading role in the development and construction of the CMS high granularity endcap calorimeter for the HL-LHC. The successful candidate will have significant involvement in both data analysis and detector construction and commissioning.

Review of applications will start immediately, and the position will remain open until it is filled.

JOB DUTIES:
40% - Data analysis using particle collision data from the CMS experiment, including writing analysis software, processing data, developing machine learning techniques, and applying statistical methods.

40% - Construction and commissioning of the upgraded CMS Endcap Calorimeter, including the quality control of circuit boards for the front-end readout electronics.

10% - Mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students as they participate in the data analysis and hardware work.

10% - Communicating research to the broader community by writing papers, submitting them for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Giving presentations at universities and laboratories and presenting results at domestic and international conferences.

Other duties of a similar scope as assigned.
