Job Summary:

University Health Services is looking for an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber to join our dynamic team. Apply now to work in our exciting environment, meeting the health and well-being needs of the UW-Madison student population.

The Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber provides routine and emergent psychiatric care to University of Wisconsin-Madison students. This includes performing a comprehensive mental health history and diagnostic interview, ordering and interpreting diagnostic testing, and making therapeutic decisions including prescribing medications within the scope of state licensure. Collaborates with and provides consultation to other treatment providers including mental health and medical providers. Monitors patient outcomes and initiates modifications in treatment plan based on patient response. The provider must demonstrate a commitment to multiculturalism and serving underrepresented populations, follow agency policies and procedures consistent with state mental health statutes, ethical guidelines, best practices, HIPAA, and FERPA, and maintain accurate and timely documentation for all clinical interactions and consultations. Duties will be performed under the supervision of the Director of Psychiatry.


Responsibilities:
Provides health care services under a collaborative care agreement with physician. Educates patients, develops and evaluates care plans, and prescribes medications and treatments in support of patient health and well-being.

  • 30% Assesses, diagnoses, and treats illnesses, and manages chronic health problems
  • 20% Develops individualized care plans based on medical assessments in accordance with medical best practices and established rules and regulations
  • 20% Educates patients and their support systems on how to manage conditions and to promote the health and well-being of patients and those around them
  • 10% May provide expertise, training, and guidance to the community, peers, and/or students
  • 20% Performs comprehensive psychiatric assessment, including mental status examination, assesses and manages safety risks. Performs mental status examinations, assesses and manages safety risks

Education:

Required
Master's Degree
Doctorate of Nursing Practice, Masters in Nursing, or Nurse Practitioner Doctorate of Nursing Practice, Masters in Nursing, or Nurse Practitioner


Qualifications:

Required:
- Minimum of one year of experience in a mental health settin
-Certification as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Preferred
- Experience working with transitional age youth/adolescents/ young adult patient population
- Two years experience in college mental health setting


License/Certification:

Required
APNP - Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber
Licensed in the state of Wisconsin or eligible to be licensed by start date.

Preferred
RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure And/Or Compact State Licensure
Licensed in the state of Wisconsin or eligible to be licensed by start date.

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
