The salary range for this position is $74,100-$96,600. "Off-scale salaries", i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions, qualifications, and experience.

Position description

We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Project Scientist to join our research team focused on advancing animal nutrition science through the development of mathematical models, including mechanistic models and meta-analyses. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in mathematical modeling, and data analysis and will contribute significantly to research projects aimed at improving livestock production systems.

I. RESEARCH (90%)

Mathematical Model Development:

* Design and develop advanced mathematical models, including mechanistic models, to predict and optimize nutritional requirements and performance of livestock.

* Conduct meta-analyses to synthesize data and inform model parameters.

Research and Data Analysis:

* Collaborate with researchers and stakeholders to identify research objectives and design experiments.

* Analyze complex datasets using statistical and computational techniques to validate and refine models.

II. PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE AND ACTIVITY (10%)

* Provide original and creative contributions to research projects, ensuring alignment with broader project goals.

* Contribute to the writing of research papers, grant proposals, and technical reports.

* Present findings at scientific conferences, workshops, and other academic venues.

Project Management:

* Oversee and coordinate research activities in the lab, ensuring project milestones are met.

* Manage subcomponents of larger research projects under the guidance of the Principal Investigator (PI).

* Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including faculty, postdocs, and graduate students.

III. UNIVERSITY AND PUBLIC SERVICE (0%)

The candidate is not expected to engage in public service and/or teaching classroom courses.


Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

* Ph.D. or equivalent degree in animal nutrition, animal science, biological systems engineering, or a closely related field.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

* Proven experience in developing mathematical models, particularly mechanistic models, applied to animal nutrition.

* Expertise in conducting meta-analyses and synthesizing large datasets.

* Strong analytical and computational skills, with proficiency in statistical software and programming languages (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB).

* Excellent scientific writing and communication skills.

* Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)

* Demonstrated ability to provide significant, original, and creative contributions to research.

* Broader range of knowledge and creative leadership.

* Flexibility to manage multiple projects and adapt to evolving research priorities.
