Course Materials/ General Books Lead - Bookstores

Description of Position
The Bookstores Course Materials/General Books position works with many departments within the bookstores including two main areas, course materials and general books. This position supports the course materials/general books buying office by assisting in the management of course material and general book acquisitions as well as the management of course material adoptions. Responsibilities include QA, training staff and faculty, ebook integration, data entry within the course material adoption system, and assisting in managing inventory for both course materials and general books. Additional responsibilities include assisting with Coffman Bookstore campus retail operation , and assisting with communication, reconciliation, and training for the course material program Course Works. This role assists the Bookstores campus operations, course materials/general book teams, ensuring excellent customer service and compliance in all activities. This position encompasses work as a cross functional team member within an assigned department within the University of Minnesota Bookstore. The position reports to the Assistant Director Course Materials/General Books position.

Responsibilities

40% - Daily Operations
* Manages incoming faculty course materials adoptions.
* Data validation and entry for Course Works
* Assist with Course Works reconciliation
* Assist with general book acquisitions
* Assist with general books inventory management.
* Analyze Course Works student and material data
* Assist with recommendations on materials selections for the Course Works program
* Manager on duty for Bookstores on assigned nights and weekends.

40% - Customer Service
* Serve as first contact for the Bookstore, troubleshoot problems and customer issues with course materials adoption and Course Works course material program.
* Respond to customer, student, staff and department inquiries regarding course material adoptions, course materials, and general books.
* Maintain accurate customer service procedures.
* Foster and build positive relationships internally and externally furthering the University's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusivity.
* Assist in special event management and coordination

10% - Training and Management
* Trains departmental coordinators, faculty, and staff on course material adoption process.
* Oversee student employees within the areas of responsibility.

10% - Special Projects
* Work at Twin Cities System Stores and special events as needed.
* Miscellaneous duties as assigned and assist in all areas as needed.

Essential Functions of the Position

* Oversee the customer service for course materials adoptions including the course materials program Course Works
* Manage correspondence
* Maintain customer service procedures
* Ensure excellent customer service and compliance standards are met
* Supervise, train, and coach student and staff employees
* Maintain professionalism with students, faculty and staff

Work Environment
Work is performed mainly in an office and retail store setting with frequent work on a computer at a desk. High paced work environment with the ability to respond quickly and effectively.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
* BA/BS plus at least 2 years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal six years
Preferred Qualifications.
* Experience with retail store operations and systems.
* Knowledge of course material adoption systems.
* Knowledge of Drupal E-Commerce systems.
* Experience working within a campus environment.
* Experience working with student employees.
* Able to promptly answer support-related email, phone calls, and other electronic communications.
* Self-motivated, detail oriented and organized.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Development
* Experience with course materials adoption systems, including Verba Software Suite.
* Strong time management skills.
* Knowledge of higher-ed course materials and inclusive access business
* Experience with retail store operations.
* Demonstrated ability to provide exemplary customer service.
* Experience with e-commerce content management systems, including Drupal.
* Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills.

Administrative
* Ability to take on new projects and learn new skills as technology changes and grows.
* Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team environment where design and production are a collaborative effort.
* Ability to effectively communicate.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $25-$26/hr; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment
