JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Penn State Harrisburg is searching for a full time Area Facilities Maintenance Mechanic to join their team. Duties include:
- Service, maintain, make minor repairs, such as motor replacement, valve and controls repair, etc., and perform preventive maintenance to domestic and commercial heating and ventilating systems, convertors, radiators, radiation units, coils and auxiliary components to include supply and return lines, controls and sensing devices necessary for proper operation
- Maintain and make minor repairs such as motor replacement, valve and controls repair, etc., lubricate, clean filters and coils, change belts and adjust pulleys on air handling equipment to include fan coil units, exhaust fans, make-up air fans, unit heaters etc.
- Install, maintain, repair, inspect and test steam traps in the steam distribution system within buildings
- Service, maintain, make minor repairs such as motor replacement, valve and controls repair, etc., and perform preventive maintenance to domestic and commercial refrigeration and air cooling equipment, coils and auxiliary components to include supply and return lines, controls and sensing devices
- Maintain proper cooling temperatures and pressures in system such as refrigerated spaces, air handling units, refrigerated laboratory equipment, ice making equipment, water coolers, refrigerated air dryers, dehumidifiers and other equipment associated with refrigeration and air conditioning
- Service, maintain and make minor repairs to combination heating and air cooling systems including chilled water system to include coils and all related controls
- Service and maintain pumps to include, but not limited to, sump, condensate, circulatory, chemical feed, chlorine booster, vacuum pumps, and air compressors. Lubricate pumps and pump motors; cut gasket and packing materials; adjust packing seals, bearings, and couplings which include the alignment of shafts and couplings
- Service, maintain, make minor repair to and perform preventive maintenance on drains, catch basins, toilets, urinals, lavatories, water filters, water softeners, all aspects of building systems
- Repair and relieve clogged drains, toilets, urinals, lavatories, and dry damaged plumbing fixtures
- Service, maintain, make minor repair to and perform preventive maintenance on utilities such as gas, air, steam, vacuum, hot and cold water
- Within buildings, repack valves, faucets, and other fittings as necessary
- Repair and maintain all types of plumbing and piping materials and components used on campus including, but not limited to glass, dura-iron, P.V.C., copper, steel, cast iron, etc.
- Service, maintain, make minor repair to and perform preventive maintenance to components from load side of breaker through and including simple switches, motors, motor starters, breakers, wiring, lamps, ballasts, and receptacles
- Inspect, clean, repair and/or replace in utility lines strainers, valves, tubes, and other fittings as required to include filtering and trapping stations in pneumatic air supply lines
- Maintain, service and adjust building and room controls to maintain prescribed temperatures and humidity as required
- Inspect, clean, lubricate and perform preventive maintenance on air compressors, air stations, refrigerated air dryers, relief valves, expansion tanks, etc.
- Operate mobile work platform to relamp as necessary various areas such as gymnasiums, pavilions, and pools
- Maintain all mechanical and electrical areas in a clean and orderly manner
- Set up, operate various hand and power tools such as drill press, electric hand drill, manual and hydraulic press, manual and hydraulic gear and bearing pullers, belt and disc sanders, power hacksaw and bandsaw, hoists, come-alongs, and tools to cut and thread pipe. Utilize various types of instrumentation such as clip-on-ammeter, volt-meter, vibration analyzer, tachometer, manifold gauge assembly, etc., to diagnose equipment malfunctions and record measurements
- Read and interpret drawings, sketches, and blueprints
- Work with manufacturers' and University manuals and instructions to accomplish scheduled maintenance
- Maintain logs and records as required
- Assist higher grade tradeworkers
- Use proper safety precautions and follow established procedures when working in buildings where hazardous elements such as radioactive material, toxic fumes and disease organisms may be present
- Detect unusual conditions and defective materials and report to supervisor
- Direct the work of lower grade employees as required
- Operate motor vehicle as required
Job Requirements: Requires the use of shop mathematics together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, various types of adjustable measuring instruments and the training generally applicable in a particular or specialized occupation. Equivalent to 1 to 3 years applied trades training. Over 1 year up to and including 3 years of effective experience. Work Schedule:7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Days Off:Sunday, Monday NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES THAT YOU OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE AS A PART OF YOUR JOB DUTIES.
