Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The mission of the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media is to prepare students to ignite the public conversation in our state, the nation and the world, and to understand the role of communication in fostering democracy. Our faculty, staff, students and administrators work collaboratively to build and foster an environment that is welcoming, inclusive and accessible to people with diverse backgrounds, experiences and beliefs.

The school offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees, and administers a variety of professional development and distance-learning programs. Enrollment includes about 1,000 undergraduates and 130 graduate students in addition to professional development and distance education students. Our faculty members are international thought leaders whose scholarly and creative activities are visible and respected in the public realm.
Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

Hussman School of Journalism and Media is inviting applications for a temporary Development Assistant. The position will provide administrative support for the Development and Alumni Relations team at UNC Hussman. The position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite, and internal database (DAVIE Donor Database) to compile data for reports and create forms, documents, and spreadsheets
Updating and maintaining the DAVIE Donor Database
Supporting development and alumni events by contributing to staffing, logistics planning, A/V operation, setup, and breakdown
Assembling materials, preparing spaces, and arranging catering for board meetings
Creating graphics in Adobe InDesign
Writing and designing one-pagers on school programs
Occasionally assisting with social media posts
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The position requires the following:

Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle deadlines and multiple priorities
Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook; PowerPoint, and InDesign
The ability to work with different software systems, learn new technology, and collect data
*Strong written communication skills with ability to compose reference materials on school programs, using proper grammar and proofing for errors in spelling and punctuation
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in journalism or communications, experience with writing and design, and knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe, including InDesign.
