Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). In lieu of degree, an associate's degree and 2 years of directly related experience may be considered. Two (2) years of full-time professional experience in graphic design at a creative agency and/or in-house department, working within brand guidelines. Experience with Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop on a Mac platform (Adobe Creative Suite). Experience preparing print and digital files for production, to produce the desired final output.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Fine Arts (BFA) or a related visual communication design field. Additional years (4+) of full-time professional experience in graphic design at a creative agency and/or in-house department, working within brand guidelines. Experience working with social media, digital advertising, environmental graphics, and/or signage. Experience with photo retouching and/or color correction. Experience with creating animations with After Effects or other similar program(s). Experience with PowerPoint, including master page and style sheet creation for Mac platform. Experience with creating and adjusting digital documents for accessibility. Experience creating templates for a web-based template system.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Junior Graphic Designer will execute Stony Brook University institutional branding and marketing communications for the Office of Marketing and Communications. The candidate must have a passion for being creative and passionate about brand building and visual storytelling, to help strategize marketing campaigns that inform and inspire, both in digital and print platforms. Computer-aided technical proficiency, organizational skills and attention to detail are essential. This incumbent must execute continuity through a wide variety of communications for our university, including but not limited to print and digital advertisements, marketing materials, social graphics, signage and internal communications, for a variety of internal and external audiences. The candidate will also aid in the creation of artwork for licensing submissions, following University brand guidelines.



  • Work in collaboration with design, marketing, digital, content, editorial and media staff, carrying through institutional identity campaigns and emphasizing key initiatives. Preparing print and digital files for production
  • Support the University's Licensing Program: Following the University brand guidelines and Retail Style Guide (logo guide for licensed products). Assistant with Designing, editing and updating artwork for promotional items.
  • Strategy and Planning: Participate in concept sessions to assist with the development and conceptualize print and digital communications. Collaborate on concepts where copy and visuals work together to communicate as needed, while staying true to the University brand.
  • Keep current on evolving technology related to Mac capabilities. Attend training seminars periodically to keep current on software.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.


Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.

In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,400 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
