DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Water Treatment Plant Operator Trainee will participate in activities related to the upkeep and functioning of the water treatment facility at Shawnee State Park, with the aim of acquiring fundamental skills and knowledge necessary for certification as a Water Treatment Plant Chief Operator. You will be responsible for providing skilled labor while ensuring adherence to regulations in the operation and maintenance of potable water treatment, storage, and distribution systems at Shawnee State Park. Your duties will include participating in the management of a sophisticated water treatment filtration system that draws surface water to supply potable water to the park. You will also engage in various training programs, both in-service and on-the-job, aimed at enhancing your knowledge, skills, and abilities in water treatment plant operations and plumbing. The assignments will offer progressively responsible experience in the operation and maintenance of equipment such as motors, pumps, water softeners, chemical feeders, chlorinators, membrane filters, flow recorders, controllers, and other apparatus utilized in water treatment facilities. This position requires a minimum 6 month probationary period prior to transferring to the position of Water Treatment Plant Chief Operator (Pay Group ST05) after the appropriate water licenses have been obtained by the employee. - Full-time employment, 37.5 hour work week
- This position performs in a seven (7) day a week operation and may be scheduled to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirement:
- Any combination of experience and/or training which provides the required knowledges and abilities.
Special Requirement:
- You must be in possession of a valid automobile operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth or Pennsylvania.
Other Requirements:

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Post Employment Requirement:
- You must obtain necessary water operator licenses through the Department of Environmental Protection within one year of employment: Water - class D, E subclass 6, 8, 12 and 13
- You must obtain, within the probationary period, a valid Operator's Certificate, or an Operator in Training Designation issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater System Operators as a water treatment plant operator that is equal to or greater than the classification and sub classification of the water system to be operated or maintained.
- You must obtain necessary wastewater operator licenses through the Department of Environmental Protection within 2 years of employment: Waste water- class D, E subclass 1 and 4
