Overview
The Custodial Team Supervisor (Supervisor I) will oversee, coordinate, and lead the day-to-day activities of the Custodial Team of The Taggart Student Center Operations Department. The Supervisor will set goals for performance and deadlines, organize workflow, ensure that employees understand their duties and designated tasks, monitor employee productivity, and provide constructive feedback.

The Custodial Team of the Taggart Student Center Operations Department cleans and maintains spaces in the Taggart Student Center and Eccles Conference Center to maximize a safe, healthy, functional, and pleasant environment.

Work hours for this position are 2:30pm - 11:30pm, Monday - Friday

Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
  • Hires, trains, plans, schedules, assigns, monitors, and evaluates the work of assigned full-time and hourly staff.
  • Leads custodial team in the day-to-day operations to complete tasks and projects with compliance to policies, procedures, and quality standards and deadlines.
  • Communicates with Director, department employees, customers, vendors and others in person, by phone, and via email.
  • May perform duties as part of the team or independently.
  • Maintains and performs simple repairs on custodial equipment, tools, and office equipment.
  • Approves employee timecards and leave requests (MyTime, AggieTime).
  • Assists Director with maintaining job descriptions.
  • Evaluates and coaches employees regularly including conducting performance evaluations for full-time and hourly employees.
  • Organizes regular team meetings and participates in department leadership meetings.
  • Maintains inventory of custodial equipment and supplies.
  • Coordinates with Director and Business Services Team on budget related matters including monitoring expenditures and annual budget planning.
  • Establishes team strategies and goals that align with Taggart Student Center core values, vision and mission statements.
  • Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Promotes personal safety of crewmembers by monitoring, evaluating, and enforcing safe behaviors.
  • Performs other Leadership and Supervision functions as assigned.

Custodial Planning
  • Develops and implements training programs for full time and hourly employees.
  • Develops core cleaning practices, task lists, and quality control checklists.
  • Performs periodic audits to evaluate effectiveness of custodial teams and procedures.
  • Coordinates rotation of custodial teams.
  • Reviews weekly and daily event schedules and coordinates modifications to assignments.
  • Coordinates all minor and major custodial projects, including deep cleaning, cleaning for special events, etc.
  • Organizes the removal of snow and ice from all exits, entrances, fire-escape exits, and handicap ramps during Custodial Team's night shift.
  • Coordinates the building recycling program working with University Recycling.
  • Ensures that the buildings are secure by maintaining a nightly door check procedure.
  • Performs other Custodial Planning functions as assigned.

Custodial
  • Facilitates and supervises the day-to-day custodial work of a team of full time and hourly employees in the Taggart Student Center.
  • Supervises hourly/part-time employees and performs custodial functions within assigned section.
  • Maintain floors and carpeting.
  • Clean interior windows and other glass surfaces.
  • Clean restrooms and replenish restroom supplies.
  • Empty waste and recycling bins.
  • Maintaining adequate stock of cleaning supplies on carts and in closets.
  • Remove snow and ice from all exits, entrances, fire-escape exits, and handicap ramps during shift.
  • Performs other custodial functions as assigned.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Three years of custodial experience with one year of experience supervising others OR an equivalent of combination of education plus experience.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to respond to emergencies as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate Degree.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Ability to train and supervise employees, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment and offer leadership to subordinate staff in area of expertise.
  • Knowledge of management skills and supervisory theories.
  • Ability to monitor and/or maintain quality control standards.
  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment, products, techniques, and standards.
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment, such as vacuums, carpet extractors, burnishers, etc.
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials and the ability to handle them effectively.
  • Knowledge of proper safety guidelines, policies, procedures, and behaviors as established by OSHA and the Facilities Department.
  • Skilled in the use of computer hardware and software including desktop PCs, Laptops, iPad, smartphones, and software including Microsoft Office.
  • Skilled at records maintenance.
  • Ability to perform tasks without close supervision.
  • Ability to act professionally with customers, coworkers and subordinates.
