Job Summary

The Pediatric Heart Center (PHC) is seeking to advance our vision, goals, and operational initiatives by utilizing the Patient Navigator role to help maximize our efficiency, identify and analyze key departmental metrics, and standardize our practices and workflows at the cross-bay level. Current Patient Navigators in PHC are limited to one campus and/or are not in a lead role.

Involves providing non-clinical support, guidance and assistance for patients and families as they navigate through complex cross bay healthcare environment. Primary goals are to increase patient satisfaction, optimize patient care, provide comprehensive reporting, data analysis and outcomes. Acts as a communication liaison to understand the patient's non-clinical individual needs, desires, and concerns. Guides the patient and family to a broad range of services, amenities, and information to promote healing and ensure satisfaction with the patient care experience.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $61,200 - $130,600 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The PHC is an integrated cross -bay center of doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals working together to offer comprehensive, patient-centered care to the fetus, infant, child, and adolescent with heart disease, as well as adults with congenital heart disease. Our growing program encompasses several sub-specialties, including programs such as Arrhythmia Center, Cardiology Clinic, Cardiopulmonary Lab, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Fetal Cardiology, Healthy Hearts & Minds, Heart Failure/Transplant, Interventional Cardiology, Cardiopulmonary Exercise Lab, Pulmonary Hypertension, Genetic Cardiovascular and Neonatal Cardiovascular Center of Excellence.

Required Qualifications


  • Advanced knowledge of Patient Rights & Responsibilities, Joint Commission standards, and Centers for Medicare / Medicaid regulations. Knowledge of Medical Terminology. Advanced knowledge of data collection, compilation, and analytical techniques.
  • Advanced interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to communicate and resolve issues effectively with a diverse population of patients, staff and physicians.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to develop solutions and recommend changes and follow through with implementation.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Windows-based software including Microsoft word, Excel, Outlook. Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.
  • Skills in data management. Proficiency in data analysis and reporting, particularly methods used in ambulatory care clinics
  • 4 to 5 years of progressively responsible hospital and/or ambulatory based experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Advanced skills to comprehend and assess patient's grievances to quickly locate appropriate resource for assistance. Advanced knowledge of the organization and how to get issues resolved.
