Job Summary: The Intramural Sports Professional Intern at the University of Wisconsin-Madison will gain valuable experience in campus recreation and leadership through active involvement in program development, event programming, and personnel evaluation. The intern will also build leadership skills in Intramural Sports, marketing, financial management, facility operations, and personnel management, while serving as an ambassador for University Recreation & Wellbeing to the UW-Madison campus and community. Responsibilities: Arranges logistics, provides broad administrative oversight, and implements programmatic changes for one or more recreational programs to efficiently provide a broad range of recreational services to the institutional community. Develops marketing and communication materials for promotion to students, staff, and customers; and assists with recreational program staff recruitment and development. 30% Coordinates logistics for events and programs 10% Develops targeted communication plans and materials based on established goals 15% Identifies, proposes, and implements new or revised operational policies and procedures 30% Assists in implementing the staffing resource allocation plan including hiring, training, and supervision 5% Prepares and monitors budgets and purchases expenditures as needed 10% Engages in the Rec Well professional internship development curriculum, all staff meetings, divisional committees, and other professional development responsibilities and opportunities. Tasks: Assist with the supervision, management, and mentorship of 40 student supervisors. Manage and execute programming responsibilities for select Intramural Sports leagues and special events, including revision of rules, marketing, registration, communications, reschedules and playoff format, inventory control, assessment & evaluation. Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate Sports supervisors and Intramural Sports officials and scorekeepers. Maintain daily office hours to assist with administrative duties including answering phone calls and e-mail correspondence, stocking first aid kits with proper supplies, record retention and filing, and customer service. Cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75 Qualifications: A successful candidate for this position should have previous experience in: - Sports officiating - Training, development, and oversight of student employees - Demonstrating communication, leadership, and organizational skills - Thinking critically to identify and solve problems - Providing customer service Work Schedule: Typical working hours are weekdays from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM, with some evening and weekend hours required. The position averages 30 hours per week. Work Type: It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Appointment Type, Duration: Terminal appointment. This position has the possibility to be extended based on need and/or funding. Salary: $22.00 HOURLY This position is not eligible for housing, benefits, or health insurance. Additional Information: Professional Internship - The academic year internship is a limited-term position lasting nine months or up to a total of 1,040 hours. - Employment is expected to run approximately from mid-August 2025 to mid-May 2026. - Compensation is $22 per hour, based on an average of 30 hours per week. - The intern will receive time off during university breaks (approximately four weeks, unpaid). - Opportunities for professional development funding support may be available.
