The Salvation Army Midland Divisional Headquarters located in St. Louis, Missouri, is looking for a Maintenance team Lead. The individual in this position, is expected to perform all types of building maintenance and custodial cleaning duties to include seasonal grounds upkeep, room set-up for meetings, and other duties as assigned by the Property Manager.

This is a full-time, exempt position, 40 hours per week, paying $45,760 annually.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position will supervise day to day operations of the custodian staff at Divisional Headquarters.

Duties/Responsibilities




  1. Inspects and identifies equipment in need of repair and cleaning within and outside the building.
  2. Troubleshoots issues to determine necessary repairs.
  3. Plans repair work using building blueprints or equipment manual as needed.
  4. Performs general repairs that do not require a specialized technician.
  5. Performs routine maintenance on building systems.
  6. Cleans and assists with upkeep of the facilities.
  7. Orders supplies and materials needed for repairs and maintenance.
  8. Maintenance and licensing of DHQ pool vehicles.
  9. Serve on the DHQ Security Committee.
  10. Performs other related duties as assigned.
  11. Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with clients, visitors, co-workers and supervisors. This includes, but is not limited to, such actions as: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors and clients; respect of others' property and person; and professional and appropriate communication to and about visitors, clients, co-workers and supervisors.


Required Skills/Abilities:



  • Knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of various cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
  • Detail-oriented and thorough.
  • Ability to perform basic repairs and operate tools or equipment used in routine maintenance.
  • Ability to keep the buildings clean and orderly.
  • Ability to interact with staff, vendors, and visitors while remaining professional, polite, and courteous.
  • Pass background check
  • Have valid driver's license
  • Obtain a Class C - Non CDL driver's license and DOT requirements to operate DOT box truck.

Education and Experience

A High School Diploma or GED with five-years related work experience. Combination of training and experience will be considered. Requires Class C - Non CDL driver's license or the ability to obtain with 30 days.

Physical and Working Conditions

Capable for standing prolonged periods. Capable of frequently lifting 50 pounds, occasionally lifting to 100 pounds. Occasionally move 100 pounds or more using dolly/cart/truck. Majority of lifting is from floor to waist height. Some lifting required above waist and shoulder height, but it will be at a reduced weight. Employee will have to bend, stoop, crouch, stand, walk, carry and push/pull items to accomplish this job. Occasionally climb a ladder to work (replace light bulbs, etc.). Some of this work will be outdoors and it will be cold in the winter and hot in the summer.

Normal work hours will be determined with supervisor.
