About the Job
General Statement of Responsibilities: Provides clinical services, both acute and chronic, to students, faculty, and staff at the University of Minnesota and others eligible for care in both the Primary Care and Urgent Care Clinics. Detailed Job Responsibilities: Primary Care Responsibilities:
- The Clinic Physician works under the general supervision and direction of the Director or Co-Director of Primary Care.
- The Clinic Physician also works within the approved protocols established by Boynton Health and within the physician's scope of practice or expertise.
- Promote a safe, equitable, and respectful environment in which concerns can be addressed effectively.
- The scope of practice for the clinic physician may include, but is not limited to, the following for which privileges are granted annually:
- Performing physical examinations including well women annual examinations and pap smears.
- Diagnosing and treating illnesses, infectious diseases and minor trauma
- Diagnosing, treating and managing chronic illnesses.
- Taking patient histories.
- Interpreting and evaluating patient data.
- Ordering or performing diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures which include biopsy, minor surgery and wound care.
- Prescribing, dispensing and administering prescription and nonprescription medications and medical devices.
- Providing contraceptive services.
- Educating patients on health promotion, disease prevention, current treatments, importance of patient compliance, and answering patient questions.
- Making patient referrals to other providers within Boynton and outside of Boynton to facilitate treatment plan.
- Arranging follow-up to review lab or test results with patients, via appointments, phone calls, letters, or secure message.
- Working with the RN Case Manager, when indicated, to coordinate care of more complex patient problems
- Creating, maintaining patient record and documenting all aspects of the encounter including, but not limited to: history, physical exam and treatment plan within the Electronic Health Record.
- Consult with other physicians and/or health care professionals as needed to confirm difficult diagnosis and facilitate appropriate treatment plan.
- Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional growth by involvement in peer review and the review of protocols and procedures; participate in continuing education.
- Assisting in mentoring and supervision of the clinical work of nursing staff, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.
Urgent Care Physician Responsibilities:
- The Urgent Care physician works under the general supervision and direction of the Assistant Medical Director of Primary Care.
- The Urgent Care physician also works within the approved protocols established by Boynton Health
- The scope of practice for the Urgent Care physician may include, but is not limited to, the following:
- Diagnosing and treating common, acute illnesses, infectious diseases and minor trauma
- Evaluating and treating exacerbations of chronic conditions or diseases.
- Performing minor out-patient surgical procedures including, but not limited to:
- I&D of abscesses and cysts
- Placement of sutures/staples for lacerations
- Removal of foreign bodies
- Stabilizing and triaging patients to the Emergency Department for patients with emergent medical conditions.
- Prescribing, ordering and/or administering prescription and non-prescription medications.
- Ordering and interpreting plain radiographs.
- Ordering and interpreting laboratory studies
- Ordering and interpreting EKGs
- Ordering and dispensing durable medical equipment
- Ordering IV Fluids, IM/IV Medications, Epinephrine, Diphenhydramine
- Assessing acute mental health concerns and providing appropriate treatment or triage
- Making patient referrals to other providers within Boynton and outside of Boynton to facilitate treatment plan.
- Arranging follow-up appointment, phone calls or secure messaging to review lab or test results with patients.
- Creating, maintaining patient record and documenting all aspects of the encounter within the electronic health record.
- Ordering medications within the electronic health record
- Ordering lab studies and imaging studies within the electronic health record
- Ordering internal and external referrals within the electronic health record
- Ordering Office Services such as medication, IV Fluids, orthopedic supplies within the electronic health record
- Consult with other physicians and/or health care professionals to confirm difficult diagnosis and facilitate appropriate treatment plan.
- Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional growth by involvement in peer review and the review of protocols and procedures; participates in continuing education.
- Assisting in mentoring and supervision of the clinical work of nursing staff, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- M.D. or D.O. degree plus Licensure for Practice of Medicine in Minnesota.
- Board eligible or board certified in their specialty.
- Training and /or experience in outpatient practice.
- DEA certification
- Demonstrated commitment to promoting a culture that respects and advances diversity and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Interest in Men's Health
- Management of Mental health, including ADHD
- Second language (Boynton sees many international students, particularly from Asian countries)

Pay and Benefits
