Day Camp Director

Position Summary: The Day Camp Director works with the Program Ministries Coordinator to develop and implement a summer day camp program consistent with the needs and interests of the community. Assure the efficient and effective functioning of the Summer Day Camp program, to provide summer day camp staff supervision, to manage the daily schedule of activities, and to create a safe and fun environment for the campers.

Essential Responsibilities:



  • Participate in pre-camp training and planning process.
  • Responsible for the safety and wellbeing of all camper and staff throughout the camp program.
  • Abide by all policies, procedures, licensing guidelines as well as standards set forth by The Salvation Army.
  • Maintain Safe From Harm guidelines for working with children throughout the camp.
  • Supervise all campers and Counselors during all water activities and specialty programs.
  • Evaluation of Counselors in a constructive way, giving and listening to feedback.
  • Organizing and insuring a high level of standards in all activities, themes, and specialty programs.
  • Establish and implement methods of staff motivation during the summer months.
  • Assist peers as needed
  • Evaluate the camp program utilizing feedback from parents and campers weekly.
  • When needed, give Counselors breaks in their day to insure healthy staff for the duration of the summer.
  • Maintain visibility during check-in and check-out to help parents and campers.
  • Constantly offer suggestions to improve camp and programs offered.
  • Maintain all paperwork pertinent to the job.
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

Education/Experience:



  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • High School diploma/GED, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Some college in a related field preferred (i.e. teacher, education, etc.)
  • Experience in administration, summer day camp programs, classroom management, etc.
  • Have two years' experience working with children, preferably in a camp setting.
  • Have previous experience in responsible leadership position.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records.


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:



  • Ability to establish an effective working relationship with parents, employees, children, and the general public.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality


Computer Skills:



  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
  • Working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint
  • Willingness to learn new software as needed


Certificates and Licenses:



  • Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
  • Have and maintain a current First Aid/CPR certification (provide certificates)
  • Must have and maintain a current valid chauffers' license and pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR) or gain chauffers' license within 30 days
