Introduction

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office is seeking a professional, dedicated individual for a full-time Cook position located in the Adult Detention Center.


Job Summary

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Prepares meals.
  • Ensures safety in food handling activities during meal preparation.
  • Serves meals to assigned service population.
  • Maintains kitchen inventory and records.
  • Records number of meals requested or otherwise served to the assigned client population; posts meal count and supply orders as received; records count of utensils given and returned, as needed; maintains accurate inventory of food and supplies; records temperature of refrigerator, freezer, and food before shipping food (as applicable depending on the assigned department) and before serving meals; and completes daily food production records on meals served.
  • Maintains safety in handling food during meal preparation, complying with procedures and Health Department requirements; follows health standards and program procedures for maintaining equipment and for sanitary dishwashing, rinsing and sanitizing of utensils, dishes and cookware; monitors ovens, refrigerator, freezers, homebound bags (as or where applicable), and floors for cleanliness; ensures food is stored at appropriate temperatures; and complies with program requirements for appropriate hygiene and attire.
  • Knowledge of the methods and best practices for food preparation service as applicable to the assigned department and/or service area.
  • Knowledge of the dietary needs of a potentially diverse service population.
  • Ability to understand and comply with program procedures for safe meal preparation, facility cleanliness, and the use of kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, clients/customers, vendors, and the general public.
  • Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours to support a service providing 3 meals a day/7days a week; must be willing to work on a rotational basis including working weekends and holidays and during severe weather conditions.
  • May be required to work at alternate locations and perform alternate duties in case of County emergency.
Hiring salary commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; one (1) year of related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Hold or obtain applicable food service certifications within three (3) months of hire to include a Food Service Sanitation Certification and a ServeSafe Certification.


Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Selection process includes review of the Applicant Screening Questionnaire and County employment application; in-person interview(s); and an intensive background investigation to include fingerprinting, criminal background check, credit check, driving record, and polygraph examination.
