Monday - Friday - 5:30am - 1:30pm - Full Time - 40 Hours

Job Summary: The Medical Assistant facilitates administrative and clinical operations in order to ensure effective, efficient, and high-quality care. The Medical Assistant contributes to Bay Cove's mission by providing compassionate and non-judgmental care to those seeking recovery and improved quality of life.

This is a non-exempt position.

Essential Functions of Position:



  • Schedule, coordinate, or facilitate patient provider encounters.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for examination of patients and disinfect treatment rooms, equipment, and supplies using germicides.
  • Provide assessment of patients prior to their provider encounters, as needed.
  • Check in patients in, escort patients to treatment rooms, interview patients, measure vital signs, and record information into patients' electronic charts.
  • Obtain blood specimens and collect nonblood specimens such as urine and sputum for laboratory testing per regulations.
  • Perform EKG's and document the findings and report in the electronic medical record immediately.
  • Assist providers with patient intakes as needed.
  • Triage/manage questions, phone contacts, and fax messages.
  • Identify, evaluate, and respond to changes in patient condition, including laboratory reports, and reports findings.
  • Manage records and prepare reports as needed.
  • Accurately document all services provided in a timely manner, compliant with all applicable rules/regulations.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned


Requirements for the Position:



  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Medical Assistant Certificate or Degree required.
  • At least six months experience in health and human service-related field working with those with co-occurring behavioral health and substance use disorders and/or those who are unhoused required.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence in dealing with individuals with a variety of different cultural backgrounds required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and committed to adhere to, federal and state policies (42 CFR Part 2, HIPAA) within one week of hire and prior to provision of direct services.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, & boundaries.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in verbal and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency in word processing and other computer functions using Windows, Word, electronic health records, and Google Email and Apps.
