Job Summary Provide general engineering assistance to the public and developers as well as technical assistance in the review of private developments, maintenance programs, and public improvements.
Essential Duties
- Provides general engineering information to the public including procedures, fee schedules, required permits, and construction standards.
- Reviews construction plans and specifications for developer-installed public improvements and makes revisions as necessary under established criteria in order to conform to City Codes, construction standards, and/or good engineering practices.
- Reviews private developments with respect to utility layout, storm drain management, and safety issues. Assures necessary modifications prior to approval by the Public Works Department.
- Receives permit applications for Right-of-Way and water/sewer connections. Calculates and collects fees and issues permits.
- Utilizes various computer software to perform above duties including word processors, spreadsheets, databases and specialized permit tracking software.
Peripheral Duties
- Assists the Development Engineering Manager in fee control and cost accounting.
- Performs field inspections for side sewers and right-of-way permits.
- Maintains Permit and Security Logs and develops summary reports of permit activity.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Must possess effective written and oral communication skills with the ability to work with the public, consultants, contractors, and co-workers in a knowledgeable and professional manner.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and engineering drawings.
- Ability to utilize PC based computer software programs.

Minimum Qualifications
- 2 years' experience in Public Works construction or Engineering, or training in Engineering or a related field.
- Ability to run standard computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, etc.

Working Conditions Work is performed in a typical office environment. Occasional site visits may be required where the incumbent could work in inclement weather.
