Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Program Coordinator within the newly established Rutgers Center for NeuroMetabolism (
CNM) at the Child Health Institute of New Jersey (
CHINJ) of Rutgers Health at Rutgers University. This role is essential in driving high-quality neurometabolic research by overseeing operational and strategic workflows and ensuring alignment with CNM's mission to advance knowledge in brain-body interactions and metabolic diseases.
The primary purpose of the Program Coordinator is to establish workflows and processes to support high-quality basic and clinical research at the
CNM. This individual is responsible for planning and monitoring the general work of research and education activities in the
CNM. Additionally, this position is responsible for meeting the goals and objectives established by the leadership team and will work out of Rutgers Health.
Among the key duties for this position are the supervision of day-to-day research coordination operations, including grant proposals, project management, progress reports, seminars and educational training activities, and instrumentation for research. The individual will organize and participate in
CNM meetings, setting goals and objectives consistent with budgetary, equipment, personnel, and policy frameworks. Furthermore, the Program Coordinator will serve productively on
CHINJ/Department Committees and work collaboratively with other units within the
CHINJ and Rutgers Health. Other related duties may be assigned as necessary.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- The Program Coordinator will provide confidential administrative and programmatic support to the Director of the Center for NeuroMetabolism (CNM), as well as department faculty, research staff, and collaborators. The role is vital for ensuring the efficient operation of the Center's daily activities and maintaining seamless communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strategic planning for CNM, working closely with the director of CNM and CHINJ to develop strategies to foster a vibrant research and education center that focuses on studying central control of neurometabolic syndromes.
- Assist in scheduling and planning CNM events, including scientific seminars, lectures, retreats, virtual meetings, and special events.
- Support CNM hiring processes by coordinating onboarding/offboarding paperwork for employees and students.
- Review and process expenditures, including purchase orders, invoices, and reimbursements, ensuring accuracy and adherence to funding guidelines.
- Oversee office supply and equipment needs, ensuring functionality and coordinating maintenance or repair orders as required.
- Work on special projects with the Director and Program Assistant and provide backup support when needed to maintain workflow.
- Attend training sessions and become proficient in new software programs and university processes.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Master's degree in neuroscience or related biological sciences, nutrition, psychology, engineering, mathematics or physics required. Plus, four (4) yeas of related research experience in neuroscience.
- One (1) year of program management or supervisory responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications |
- PhD, MD or equivalent degree in neuroscience or related biological sciences, nutrition, psychology, engineering, mathematics, or physics.
- 5-10 years of experience in research in neuroscience.
- 2-5 years of program management, ideally within neuroscience, metabolism, or clinical research.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage complex projects, and work collaboratively across disciplines.
- Demonstrated knowledge is necessary of how to accomplish superior performance in a unionized environment.
- Excellent skills in writing, organization, and interpersonal communication.
- Familiarity with administrative and financial tools and procedures specific to Rutgers or similar institutions.
- Demonstrated proficiency in creating and managing databases and spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel. Experience with preparing Acrobat PDF files and other document formats.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Technical proficiency in maintaining websites, uploading website content, setting up conference/video calls, and troubleshooting technical issues.

Physical Demands:
- Must be comfortable working in a research office/laboratory environment.
- Some lifting may be required: up to 25 lbs.
- Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. Heavy computer work.
- May need to travel to other buildings and across campus to attend training, workshops, events, etc.
Work Environment:
- Office / Lab environment. Moderate noise.
- Must pass employee health clearance, TB Test and required safety training.
