Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (
UBHC), established in 1971, offers a full continuum of evidence based behavioral health and addiction services for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors throughout New Jersey. UBHC's 1,060 experienced behavioral health professionals and support staff are dedicated to treatment, prevention, and education.
UBHC, one of the largest providers of behavioral health care in the country, has a budget of $260 million and has 15 sites throughout New Jersey. Services are readily accessible and include: inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, screening, crisis stabilization, family/caregiver support, community outreach and case management, supportive housing, supported employment, prevention and consultation, employee assistance programs, and a licensed therapeutic school from preschool through high school. Specialty services include the New Jersey suicide prevention helpline and peer help lines for police, veterans, active military, teachers, mothers of special needs children and child protective service workers. In FY2016,
UBHC treated 16,199 consumers, had 24,502 admissions, and touched the lives of 19,441 individual callers through peer support. In addition,
UBHC is the primary mental health training resource for the New Jersey departments of Human Services, Children and Families, and Corrections, delivering 16,000 trainings each year. |

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Clinical Pharmacist Specialist for the Behavioral Research and Training Institute - Integrated Health Services within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.
The primary purpose of the Clinical Pharmacist Specialist is to be responsible for University Behavioral Health Care (
UBHC) clinical pharmaceutical services and monitoring clinical guidelines with
UBHC. Ensures standards of professional and ethical practice in the provision of pharmaceutical services within the institution are maintained.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Provides clinical pharmacy services for optimal cost-effective patient care.
- Reviews physician orders to determine therapeutic rationale and appropriate patient regimens. Complete polypharmacy reviews and laboratory monitoring.
- Provides and directs clinical intervention programs to enhance medication selection, administration, and dosing.
- Monitors performance of clinical initiatives. Maintain formulary compliance through cost analysis and adherence to clinical guidelines.
- Reviews existing clinical services and develops new guidelines as part of performance improvement that targets optimal medication therapies and patient outcomes.
- Monitors 340b process for medication procurement and scheduling of eligible disease states.
- Assists with the formulary management service that incorporates treatment protocols, order sets, and critical pathways to provide optimal medication therapy while containing acquisition costs of drugs.
- Monitors pharmaceutical manufacturer patient assistance program information.
- Meets with patients to perform medication regimen review, provide disease state education, and optimize pharmaceutical care plan.
- Responds to pharmacy related emergencies and incidents at assigned institution.
- Performs routine inspections of pharmaceutical services to ensure state and federal compliance. This includes medication storage, product expiration, emergency kits, random sampling of medication orders, narcotic inventory, and other pharmacy areas of concern.
- Develops systems to recognize and report possible synergistic, antagonistic or cumulative effects of drugs.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy with a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy.
- At least three (3) years of Pharmacist experience with enhanced clinical responsibilities or successful completion of a PGY1 pharmacy residency and/or demonstrated knowledge to perform the essential duties of the job.

- A current, unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in the State of NJ.
- A valid driver's license.

- Thorough knowledge of all applicable State/Federal laws, rules and regulations.
- Working knowledge of personnel administration, physician and nursing consultations and inter-departmental relationships.
- Outstanding Human relations and leadership skills, and the ability to function in a team environment required.
- Demonstrated knowledge is necessary of how to accomplish superior performance in a unionized environment.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite.

- Master's Degree or Doctorate in Pharmacy (Pharm D.) Degree.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
Physical Demands: Typing, ability to speak clearly and write proficiently is essential, extensive reading required, extended sitting is required, lifting of up to 20 pounds, hearing is essential, ability to speak clearly is required, may be required to travel within the state, ability to implement Universal Precautions and Safety Precautions, on-call responsibilities.
Work Environment: Able to function in a stressful environment and relates well to the patients, security staff and healthcare team members. A generally crisis oriented, secure environment working with inmates, some who exhibit aggressive, threatening behavior. Incumbent must exhibit flexibility to work in a variety of settings. |
