Job Summary

The Department of Building and Development is seeking an electrical inspections field supervisor to supervise the daily activities of the electrical field inspectors who are responsible for conducting field inspections of commercial and residential structures for compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (VUSBC), National Electrical Code and local ordinances.

The duties and responsibilities of this position include:
* Direct leadership and supervision of approximately 6 electrical inspectors responsible for inspecting commercial and residential structures for VUSBC compliance,
* Manage staff performance for adherence to all applicable policies and procedures of the Department and of the County, including performance and attendance.
* Promote staff growth and professional development, including encouraging participation in local, state and federal organizations involved in establishing and enforcing building and trade codes.
* Maintain compliance with inspection time limitations established by the Building Official to meet the intent of the VUSBC.
* Assign the daily electrical inspections workload using the County's land management software.
* Promote the use of technology to complete and record daily electrical inspections results.
* Conduct residential and commercial electrical inspections.
* Mentor and develop inspections staff, including follow up inspections, ride along inspections and other measures to ensure effective, solution-oriented inspections.
* Attend mandatory training as required by title 36 of the Code of Virginia and ensure required electrical inspector certifications are current.
* Work with owners, contractors, architects, other county agencies, inspectors and the public to provide technical information and assist with finding solutions which meet their needs within the limits of the code.
* Assist with responses to Freedom of Information Act requests and other customer inquiries.
* Complete reviews of and/or assign reviews of special inspection reports to electrical inspectors for accuracy and acceptance.

The ideal candidate will possess outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written, excellent leadership and supervisory skills, support continuous learning, provide great customer service and foster a team environment. The ideal candidate can solve problems and resolve conflicts with minimal supervision and will have a working knowledge of policies and regulations (local, state and federal) surrounding electrical code regulations. The ideal candidate will be organized, team oriented, dependable, flexible, efficient, self-motivated, active listener & possess strong interpersonal skills.

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.



Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent (technical coursework in building construction preferred); six (6) years of related work experience in the building construction trade including commercial and residential experience dealing with the public which includes one (1) year of supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Must become certified by the Virginia State Department of Housing and Community Development as a Residential & Commercial Electrical Inspector within six (6) months of starting employment and maintain the required certifications in accordance with Virginia Certification Standards.

Criminal and DMV background checks are required. Valid driver's license and good driving record required (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification.
