The Maintenance Team Member (Team Member) performs a variety of routine and semi-skilled tasks in support of the School’s physical facilities. The Team Member is responsible for completing maintenance work orders, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, grounds and equipment, and painting. The Team Member is also responsible for campus moves which include relocation of furniture, appliances, cubicles, books, etc. This position also serves to assist with event setups and breakdowns and performs a variety of day porter tasks. The Team Member reports to the Assistant Director of Facility Maintenance. One position is available, candidates may be considered for one of two levels listed below. Primary Responsibilities (includes but not limited to): - Maintenance Team Member I: Maintenance Team member I is an entry level role for someone with 0-2 years’ experience. The individual in this role will have little to no experience and will learn on the job.
- Routine Maintenance
- Perform moves, deliveries, installs, or changes to offices and events.
- Assist with event set-up and breakdown/clean up.
- Perform preventive maintenance checks and interior/exterior building inspections as assigned.
- Identify and report maintenance deficiencies on a routine basis.
- Carry or haul various loads from one location to another.
- Assist with recurring tasks, including checking fire extinguishers, checking parking garage lights, etc.
- Perform routine tasks according to pre-determined or incident-driven schedules, as directed including, without limitation: General labor, painting, minor plumbing, changing lightbulbs, hanging pictures, minor electrical, HVAC, and hardware repairs, maintenance, upgrades, inspections, and troubleshooting. Day porter duties as necessary.
- Safety
- Perform all duties in a safe manner, identifying and reporting unsafe conditions, working safely alone and around others, and in accordance with the school’s Injury and Illness Prevention program.
- Participate in and successfully complete all safety training, including CPR, hazardous materials, etc.
- Operate ladders, scaffolds, and mechanical lifts consistent with safety training.
- Maintenance Team Member II (in addition to the items above): The maintenance Team Member II will have 2-4 years of related experience.
- Routine Maintenance
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on a variety of building systems including electrical, plumbing, painting, and HVAC, including electrical change-out of fixtures, plugs, and switches. Plumbing installation of faucets, urinals, and toilets. Snaking drain lines and unclogging plumbing and fixtures. Minor carpentry tasks.
- Apply basic skills in two or more of the following trades: electrical, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, painting, carpet care, etc. to ensure quality maintained facilities.
- Perform general maintenance and cleaning of common areas, maintenance shop, etc.
- Maintain and update all assigned service requests until assignment is completed and closed..
- Safety
- Comply with all OSHA safety regulations, local applicable laws regarding health, safety.
- Understand and follow safe work practices for all trades, including but not limited to: Lockout Tag-out, Confined Space Entry, use of hazardous chemicals, use of Personal Protective Equipment, Ladder Safety, and working from Elevated Surfaces.
Minimum Qualifications: - High school diploma or equivalent required.
- A range of 0-4 years of related work experience in multifaceted maintenance position required (exact range depends on position level as mentioned above).
- Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, drywall, and painting preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
- Ability to use basic hand tools, and electrical tools. This will include the proper procedure for the use of tools and the knowledge of appropriate safety measures.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays.
- May be called in, on occasion, for after-hours emergencies. Each maintenance staff person shares on-call duty for one or more weekend(s) per month and therefore must have access to a working telephone.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid California driver’s license and personal vehicle insurance acknowledging the vehicle is used for employee’s work purposes. Must have access to a reliable vehicle and maintain a clean driving record. Must maintain credit rating in good standing as defined by CWSL’s policies.
- Must possess basic mechanical aptitude, and the knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment necessary to proficiently perform assigned diversified maintenance tasks.
- Must have the ability to follow direction and instruction, read and understand specifications, blueprints, diagrams, work orders, and requests.
- Must operate equipment and materials in a manner consistent with safety training and in an efficient, safe and effective manner.
- Read, write and perform basic arithmetic calculations, and perform routine maintenance tasks independently.

Computer Skills: - Must possess intermediate level of computer skills using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Basic knowledge of internet-based work order ticketing system a plus.
- Must be familiar with Internet search engines and email properties.
- Aptitude for learning new technology will be beneficial.
Compensation: - Maintenance Team Member I: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour
- Maintenance Team Member II: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
Factors in determining the appropriate job title level (Maintenance Team Member I or II) and compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the law school reasonably expects to pay for the position levels I - II. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the law school anticipates paying for this position, based on internal equity and budget.
